The Rev. Milton Petzold, pastor of Peace United Church of Christ, Dorchester,
and Community UCC, Medford, was honored Sunday for his 25th anniversary in the
ministry, with a joint service at the Medford Church. The Rev. Lamon Hernandez,
Merrill, conducted the services, and the Rev. Eugene Jaberg, professor of speech
and communications at the Theological Seminary at New Brighton, Minn., gave the
sermon. Rev. Petzold’s sister, Mrs. Robert Stoll, Plymouth, sand a solo, with
her husband as accompanist.
Following the services, dinner was served to about 300 persons from the two
congregations and invited guests. A decorated cake, a replica of the Medford
Church, centered the table for honored guests. James Amo was master of
ceremonies for the program, which followed the dinner. Ray Bonnert and Lloyd
Carlson, presidents of the two congregations, extended greetings. Rev. Duchow of
Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau, a classmate, also spoke. Rev. Petzold’s
sons sang a selection and a letter was read from the Rev. Carl Nagel, a former
pastor at Antigo, now living in Texas, who had observed his 75th (?) anniversary
of ordination.
The Rev. Petzold was ordained at Grace United Church of Christ, Wausau, February
16, 1947, and served congregations in Boltic, Ohio; Plymouth, Indiana; Antigo
and Monroe, Wisconsin. He came to Medford in August 1970 to serve the
congregations at Medford and Dorchester.
He is married to the former Ardelle Sessler of Sheboygan. The couple has four
sons: Paul, who is married and lives in Madison; Dennis, a graduate student at
Illinois Wesleyan University at Bloomington, and Keith and Kent, twin sons, who
are juniors at Medford High School.
