Spaete, Paul Robert (29 November 1909 – 17 January 1979)
Paul Robert Spaete, 69, a former Neillsville and Granton businessman passed away
Wednesday, January 17, in his Sturgeon Bay home, the victim of an apparent heart
attack. Spaete was born on November 29, 1909, in Mallers, Germany. He moved,
with his parents and family to Neillsville in 1928 and worked as a meat cutter
and sausage maker in that community. He later operated a grocery store and meat
market in Granton.
In 1933, he married Helen Betz in Greenfield ceremonies and six years later
moved to Rice lake where he was a foreman for Sykes Meat Packing Company in
Cameron. In 1956, the couple moved to Sturgeon Bay and operated an A&W drive-in.
Spaete is survived by his wife, four sons, Robert of Boring, Ore., Gordon of
Galesville, Dennis of Ironwood, Mi., and Richard of Chicago, Ill., one daughter,
Mrs. Doug (Beverly) Robarte, Racine; eight grandchildren, and three sisters in
Germany.
Preceding him in death were four brothers and one sister in Germany and Alfred
Spaete of Granton.
Funeral services were held this past Saturday from the Bay View Lutheran Church
in Sturgeon Bay with a short service following on Monday at Zion Lutheran Church
in Granton. Burial was to be made Monday afternoon in Windfall Cemetery,
Granton, with the Rev. Horst Augustin officiating. The David Mortuary of
Sturgeon Bay was in charge of arrangements.
