Hoberg, Raymond D. (Service Notes - 1978)
Navy Electrician’s Mate Third Class Raymond D. Hoberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
C. Hoberg, 19 Hewett street, Neillsville, recently participated in the
multi-nation naval exercise “Readex 1-78” in the Caribbean Sea.
He is serving as a crewmember aboard the amphibious command ship USS Mount
Whitney, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia.
Conducted at Vieques Island, Puerto Rico, and in the Caribbean Sea, the weeklong
“Readex 1-78” involved Navy and Marine units from the United States, United
Kingdom, Canada, Brazil, West German and the Netherlands. Readiness training
included antisubmarine warfare, antiair defense, plus amphibious and task group
operations. Following an amphibious landing on Vieques Island, U.S., Dutch and
Brazilian units conducted exercises in patrolling techniques, land navigation,
and anti-mechanized live-fire.
A 1975 graduate of Neillsville high School, Hoberg joined the Navy in May 1975.
