The Army Commendation Medal was awarded to former Lt. Martin O. Hackel, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Otto V. Hackel of Abbotsford. The medal was awarded for meritorious
service in connection with previous duties as a courier with the Armed Forces
Courier Service.
The citation accompanying the award specifically mentions his contribution to
the safe deliver of top secret documents to the US. delegation to the SALT
meetings in Vienna.
Hackel is a 1962 graduate of Abbotsford High School, and a 1968 graduate of St.
Norbert College, West DePere, Wisconsin, receiving a BBA.
