Bryan, Walter D. (1900 – 6 April 1978)
Word was received this week that the brother of four former Neillsville sisters,
Nellie, Edith, Jessie and Belle Bryan, passed away, April 6, in a Madison
hospital. Funeral services were held April 9 for Walter D. Bryan, 77, Madison,
who passed away after a brief illness.
Bryan was born in Verona in 1900 and was employed for 25 years with the Madison
Bus Company. He married the former Ruth Short on September 3, 1921. Bryan hosted
the first music show on WHA radio in the early ‘20’s and he was the first one to
sing a song on this station.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Cameron of Belleville and Walter, Jr.,
and Bruce both of Madison, two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Greta) Doyle of Portage
and Mrs. Gerald L. (Carol) Stich of Baraboo, twelve grandchildren, two brothers,
John and George of Neillsville and the four sisters.
Services were held from Hope Lutheran Church with burial made in the Highland
Memory Gardens, Madison.
