Newell, Grace Kathryn (18 September 1920 – 11 April 1978)

Grace Kathryn Newell, 57, of Humbird, died April 11 at the Pine View Nursing Home in Black River Falls after a lingering illness. She had been a resident of the home for the last three weeks.

Mrs. Newell was born to Jacob and Gertrude Pechtold on September 18, 1920, in Black River Falls. She attended school and graduated in Black River Falls. She was married to Lyle Newell on October 29, 1939, in Arcadia. She had been a resident of Humbird since 1950. Mrs. Newell was a member of the Church of Christ, of the Women’s Guild and of the Humbird Homemakers.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle, 3 daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Judy) Staves, Alma Center, Mrs. Kenneth (Sharon) Fitzpatrick, Black River Falls, and Mrs. Ambrose (Christine) Meyer of Silver Bay, Mn., one son, Virgil Newell, Humbird; and five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Harnish and Mrs. Jean Lambert of La Crosse and one brother, Jacob Pechtold, Hatfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Services for Mrs. Newell were held Friday afternoon at the United Church of Christ in Humbird with the Rev. Alvin Ebert.
