The Dorchester Fire Department was called at 8:10 p.m. Friday to a fire of
undetermined origin that swept through the eight room two-story home of Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Tischendorf, two and one half miles northeast of Dorchester.
The children discovered the fire in one of the upstairs rooms. All of the
upstairs furnishing were lost, but most of the furniture downstairs was moved
into the garage.
The house had about 75 percent of the structure damaged by fire, water, or
smoke, and was estimated at a $10,000 loss, partly covered by insurance. Mr. and
Mrs. Tischendorf had much praise for the firemen for their prompt and efficient
service. The firemen stayed on the scene for about three hours. Mr. and Mrs.
Tischendorf and five children are living in a mobile home on their property.
