Schaefer, George H. (5 January 1899 – 16 April 1978) With Flag
Funeral services were to be held at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ at
Christie for George H. Schaefer, 79, of Rt. 3 Neillsville. The Rev. Lourinda
Sanford was to be in charge, and burial was to be made in the Town of Weston
Cemetery. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Schaefer died suddenly in Marshfield
Sunday.
He was a life-long resident of the Town of Weston, where he was born to Mathias
Schaefer and Emma Silkey Schaefer on January 5, 1899. He received his education
in the Town of Weston and served in the Navy aboard the battleship Wisconsin
during the first World War. Following his discharge, he returned to Weston,
where he engaged in farming in the Christie area until his retirement in 1959.
On August 30, 1930, he was married in Winona, Minn. to Vernice Brown, who
survives, and other survivors are three children, Mrs. Ashley (Verna) Friberg of
Santa Clara, Calif., Mrs. Gaylord (Mable) Johnson of Port Edwards, and Mrs.
Bradley (Elva) Bennett, Wisconsin Rapids; also, a sister, Mrs. Pearl Runge of
Neillsville and seven grandchildren.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Christie and the Clark County
Historical Society

The United Methodist Church in Christie served as the funeral site for George H.
Schefer, 79, who passed away on April 16, with the Rev. Lourinda Sanford
officiating at the 1:30 p.m. services on April 19, and burial was made in the
Town of Weston Cemetery.
Dan Sloan sang “Let The Lower Lights Be Burning” and “Amazing Grace,”
accompanied by Betty Schultz. Pallbearers were Ben Schwellenbach, Ralph Bensen,
Wayne Voxx, Bernard Opelt, Rene Harder and Lee Mills.
