The Clark County Historical Society was organized in 1965 to promote the
preservation of the county history. Three registered landmarks have been erected
in the Greenwood and Neillsville areas. In 1969 the historical marker
designating the Home of Colby Cheese was erected in Colby.
Recently the Soo Line Railroad Company donated the Colby depot to the society
for a museum. The depot will be moved to the “box factory property,” which the
society has purchased for the museum site.
Colby merchants and organizations have been very generous in both pledges and
donations to help the society. Although little has been heard about the project
in recent months, plans were being made and work in preparation for moving will
begin as soon as weather permits.
Many articles have been given for the museum and a number of high school
students are working on display materials.
