Five area homemakers were honored at the Clark County Homemaker Day doing held at Colby for having over 50 years of membership in a homemaker club. All five were from Abbotsford Center, and included Mrs. Ida Stecker, Mrs. Lydia Frome and Mrs. Augusta Borchert of the “Our Afternoon Out” Club, and Mrs. Anna Bush and Mrs. Ole Hanson of the “Our Day Out” Club.

With over 50 clubs represented, a traveling trophy was awarded this year for the first time to the club considered as being most active individually and as a club. The trophy was awarded to the “Starlight Club” of Neillsville.

A quilt with the Lone Star pattern made by Mrs. Marvin Churkey of the “North Bright Club” in Owen received first prize in the creative stitchery category, and will be exhibited in the Cultural Art Display at the Wisconsin Center on the UW-Madison campus.

Over 200 women registered for the day and took part in the seven craft demonstrations, which included Cake Decorating, Mrs. V. Lewandowski, Thorp; Creative Stitchery, Mrs. R. May, Medford; Flower Arranging, Mrs. E. Kobs, Spencer; Furniture Refinished, John Snedic, Greenwood; and Rosemaking, Mrs. V. A. Hansen, Withee.
