Baehr, William F. (12 Sep 1899 – 27 Apr 1972)
Funeral services for William F. Baehr, 72, a native of the Town of Mayville
(Clark Co., Wis.), who died suddenly at his home on April 27, 1972, were held at
Manhattan, Kansas. The Rev. Robert H. Rosenkoetter conducted the rites, and
burial was in Sunset Cemetery in Manhattan.
Wm. F. Baehr was born September 12, 1899 in the Town of Mayville. He attended
Pleasant Hill School, and graduated from Concordia College, Milwaukee. He
studied for the ministry at Concordia Seminary, and received his diploma in
1924. Interested in library science, he spent five years studying the subject
and earn a BS and MA degree from the University of Illinois.
He was a member of the American Library Association, Mountain Planes Library
Association, and the Kansas Association of Teacher Librarians. Mr. Baehr was
listed in Who’s Who in America. He was a member of the Manhattan Board of
Education from 1955 to 1963, and was active in Kiwanis, the Parent Teacher’s
Association, and the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce.
Besides his wife, the former Edith Moecker, he is survived by five children: Wm.
of Houston, David of Minneapolis, Mrs. Paul Brockman, Laramie, Mrs. Wesley
Houser, Mexico, and Miss Gratia Baehr of Grafton. Eight grandchildren and three
sisters, also survive.
