Schankey, Janet (22 September 1931 – 27 April 1978)

Mrs. Vernon (Janet) Schankey, 46, of Merrillan, died Thursday, April 27, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. Cause of death is not known, pending results of an autopsy.

She was born in Clark County on September 22, 1931, to Mr. and Mrs. Vance (Lois Green) Bates. She moved to Merrillan at an early age and graduated from the Merrillan High School in 1949. She married Vernon Schankey on January 10, 1953, at Black River Falls. She was an assistant dietitian at Black River Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, her parents in Merrillan, four daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Linda) Moore of Mukwonago and Sandra, Christine and Beth all of Merrillan, two brothers, Vance Bates, Jr., of Merrillan and William Bates of Rockford, three sisters, Mrs. William (Virginia) Johnson of Merrillan, Mrs. James (Betty) Murphy of Black River Falls, and Mrs. William (Joanne) Buddinger of Neillsville and three grandchildren.

Services were held Monday morning in the Merrillan Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Carey, officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan.
