Butler, Earl V. (16 Mar 1897 – 04 Jun 1972)
Earl V. Butler, 75, Colby, died of a heart attack at 1:35 a.m. Sunday at St.
Joseph’s Hospital, where he had been admitted Saturday.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, with the Rev. Francis Rushman, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in
St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Arthur France, Lowell Dorn, Ervin Meyer, Fred Zassenhaus, Ervin
Primeau and Lawrence Zeske.
Mr. Butler was born March 16, 1897 at Unity, and received his education in Unity
schools and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was married October 5,
1920, in Colby, to the former Otillia Budde, who survives him. He operated a
sawmill and a in 1923 began contract carpenter work in Colby. He was a member of
St. Mary’s Holy Name Society and the Men’s Catholic Order of Foresters.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joseph, Ashland, Oregon, a
daughter, Mrs. Glen (Ruth) Korntved, Milwaukee, eight grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
