Petkovsek, Anna Herrick (75th – 1978)

Anna Herrick Petkovsek, Peoria, Ill., who was eleven years old when her family settled in Willard in 1914, will return to her home community to celebrate her 75th birthday and be honored by four generations of relatives and friends on June 17.

Nearly all of the thirteen children of Jack Herrick and Anna Pintar, who were reared on the farm site still standing near Lake Mead, will be among the more than 200 guests gathering in the Willard Parish Center. In addition to her brothers and sisters, Mrs. Petkovsek will greet other descendants of both the Herrick and Pintar families, whose ancestors came to America from Yugoslavia in or around 1900 and friends and descendants of neighbors whose families settled in Willard at the time Herricks did. Out of town guests will come from as far away as California, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, Louisiana, and Florida – some to meet for the first time.

Mrs. Petkovsek, who married the late Andrew Petkovsek in 1922, moved to Peoria following their marriage. Three of her four children will attend the event. They are Augusta Petkovsek, Princeton, Ill., Edith Farrow, Bartonville, Ill., Marian Petkovsek, Chicago, and Don Petkovsek, San Jose, Calif. Her brothers and sisters in the Willard area include Mrs. David (Eva) Hollowell, Mrs. Harold (Lucille) Hawley, Mrs. Dick (Joan) Noah, and Charlie Herrick of Greenwood, Robert Herrick of Willard and Florian Herrick of Colby. Charlie will be in charge of the afternoon barbeque.

Other brothers and sisters attending will be Jack Herrick, Afton, Minn., Donna Smith, St. Paul, Minn., and Francis Murphy, Marshall, Ill. Unable to attend will be Mary Holmes, Santa Monica, Calif., Edward, Bossier City, Los Angeles and Joe, St. John, Newfoundland.

Any friends or neighbors wanting to visit with the members of the Herrick family, feel free to stop in at the Center in Willard on Saturday afternoon.
