Beeckler, Daphne (14 June 1899 – 18 June 1978)
Daphne Beeckler, age 79, died Sunday at 10:03 p.m. after being severely injured
in an automobile accident that afternoon. Miss Beeckler along with four other
persons, were taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield after a two-car
collision occurred at County Trunks H and Y in the Town of Fremont, ten miles
west of Marshfield.
According to the sheriff’s department, a car driven by Helene M. Okray, Monona,
failed to stop for a stop sign and struck broadside an auto driven by Norman R.
Podratz, St. Paul. Others injured were Podratz, 53, his wife, Jacquelyn, 49,
Helene Okray, 63, and Sandra Hollanitsch, 28, of St. Paul, a passenger in the
Podratz vehicle. Miss Beeckler suffered broken ribs, head-cuts and a broken arm
and leg.
The Rev. William Noble conducted the funeral at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the
United Methodist Church in Granton. The burial services were held at the
Windfall Cemetery with friends calling until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Gilbertson
Funeral Home in Granton. The Carmi Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of
Neillsville conducted a prayer service at 8:00 p.m.
Miss Beeckler was born June 14, 1899, in Granton and attended schools there. She
completed studies at Stevens Point Teachers College and taught in Granton, Black
River Falls, Hillsboro, Clintonville and at the Neillsville High School until
retiring in 1969.
After retiring she worked as the librarian for the Granton Library and was a
member of the Modern Priscillas of Granton and the Carmi Chapter of the Order of
the Eastern Star of Neillsville. She also belonged to the United Methodist
Church in Granton and its Ladies Aid.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by five
sisters and four brothers.
