Buth, Dr. Wilfred M. (? - 2 May 1978)
The son of a former Granton clergyman and himself a graduate of Granton High
School, Dr. Wilfred M. Buth, 56, associate professor and chairman of the history
department of California Lutheran College, died May 2, according to “The
Lutheran Standard,” a national magazine of the American Lutheran Church.
Buth was the son of Rev. John Buth, a pastor of Zion ALC Church, rural Granton,
who served the community nearly 30 years ago.
Wilfred Buth held degrees from St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota; Lutheran
Theological Seminary, Philadelphia; UW-Madison; and the University of Southern
California. He served a parish in Madison, 1946 to 1951; was executive director
of campus ministry at Ohio State University, 1952-1956; held a similar post at
the University of Southern California from 1956-1963; and then joined the
California Lutheran College faculty.
