Friends of the University, a committee of local residents which raised more than
$2,000 this spring in an annual “Benefit Ball,” have selected 14 students at the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point for scholarships.
Circuit Judge and Mrs. James H. Levi, co-chairmen of the 1972 ball, said the
amount of the grants at $200 and $100, and are given largely on the basis of
academic achievement and incentive.
Selection was made by the “Friends” scholarship committee. Al but four of the
1972 recipients are upper classmen on campus. The others are incoming freshmen
with music majors.
The winners included James G. Vorland, a senior in the drama department, and son
of Mrs. Pearl Vorland of 223 S. First, Colby, who was given $200.
