Neillsville-Bryant Foundation Scholarships (Three - 2021)

The Edwin E. and Janet L. Bryant Foundation of Stoughton has announced the latest recipients of its scholarship program. This year the foundation awarded 24 scholarships to people pursing a higher education, including Neillsville High School alumni Alli Schoengarth, Mindy Schoengarth and Lisa Smith.

Renewable scholarships of up to $12,000 annually ae offered for full or parttime study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. Preference is given to nontraditional students who did not go directly to college after high school and who want to attend college or are currently enrolled in college. Awards may be renewed for up to five additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.

The Bryant Foundation scholarship program was created to assist former students of Stoughton High School and the high schools of all the Wisconsin communities where Nelson Industries had a manufacturing presence. The other communities include Neillsville, Black River Falls, Mineral Point, Viroqua, Bloomer, Wautoma, Arcadia, Muscoda and Montello.

The Stoughton location served as corporate headquarters for the company until its sale in 1998. Edwin E. Bryant, a benefactor of the Bryant Foundation, was founder, chairman and CEO of Nelson Industries (then known as Nelson Muffler Corporation) until his death in 1972.

“Nelson Industries, Inc. continued to be a very successful company and the Bryan Foundation board swished to acknowledge the importance of all the locations which helped in the company’s success by offering scholarships in thee communities,” Lydia Rux of Scholarship America wrote in a July 7 press release.
