Sternitzky (Burned - 1978)
Steven Sternitzky, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sternitzky of Neillsville, is
reported making satisfactory progress in University Hospital in Madison, where
he is recovering from burns suffered in an explosion of liquid petroleum on a
construction job on which he was working.
Sternitzky was burned over 45 percent of his body last Thursday afternoon when
the valve on a tar-heating unit was fractured and escaping gas ignited with an
explosion.
His parents reported that he suffered second and third-degree burns, with the
most severe burns in the abdomen and right arm. His doctor’s report is
“optimistic,” according to Sternitzky’s father, but skin grafts will be required
in some areas.
Mrs. Sternitzky and their daughter Ann, a nursing student at the UW-Madison,
have been with Sternitzky. Ann is assisting in his care.
