Boyer, Romaine Charles “Chuck” (2 September 1938 – 18 July 2021)

It is with great sadness that we share our beloved Romaine (Chuck) Charles Boyer passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at his home.

He was born to Adeline Boyer and Lloyd Manning on September 2, 1938. He was then adopted by his grandparents George and Mildred (Flick) Boyer.

Chuck had such a satisfying, enjoyable life. He took pride in being an integral part of the Neillsville community by serving on the Pine Valley town board and partaking in the community resources. Chuck worked at Nelson Muffler for most of his life and was head of the tube bending department. He played a key role in designing and building the original equipment. While working full time at Nelson, he took pride in farming where he raised beef and pigs and later cash cropped. After retirement he enjoyed driving cars for Urban Sales and Service and returned to tube bending to help Fabricating Specialists get their start. Chuck raised his two boys knowing what hard work was and appreciating the little things in life. Chuck enjoyed playing softball, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and never missed any of his grandkids’ sporting or school events. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Chuck and Bernice had been married for 59 years; it was a marriage of partnership, devotion, peace, and happiness. Chuck loved his family; he was a soft and gentle soul with a big heart and family knew that he would do anything for them. The grandchildren have fond memories of playing marbles and fishing with Chuck; he was so patient and loving. His children have wonderful memories of hunting and fishing and the annual fishing trip with Chuck to Canada, and in the later years, to more local fishing holes on Lake Holcombe or Otter Lake.

In the last couple of years, Chuck was able to find his half-sisters, and this was such an important life event for him. Chuck had a missing link, and his sisters were able to fill that empty hole with love and a familial connection. Though they were only able to connect recently, the relationship provided answers to a lifetime of questions, brought closure to him and his sons, and a new branch was formed on the family tree which he truly treasured.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice Trachte Boyer, adult son, Kevin and his wife, Tracy Boyer, and Chuck’s grandchildren, Jarod, Will, Lauren, and Emily Boyer, daughter in law, Laura Boyer and her children Kayla, Taylor, and Janna Thoma.

He is further survived by brother Marvin Boyer and sister Jean Bedell, half-sisters Judy Bachler and Diane Bertram, and half-brother Kenny O’Leary.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents Adeline Boyer and Lloyd Manning, his parents George and Mildred Boyer. Brothers Arvid (Bob) Boyer, Earl Boyer, and Wallace Boyer, sister Neva Howard, and half-brother Jim Boyer, and most recently his oldest son Craig Boyer.

We will miss Chuck’s smiling face and his little smirk as he had such a great sense of humor (Just ask any nurse that cared for him). He was more than any husband, father, and grandfather could ask for. In the end, his heart could not keep up and truly died from a broken heart after losing his son Craig. We know he will be watching over Bernice, Kevin, Laura, and Tracy and grandkids and will live forever in our hearts.

A Memorial Service for Chuck will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Deacon Ray Draeger will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home. Interment will be in the North Pine Valley Cemetery at a later date.
