Silkey, Edwin J. (20 January 1896 – 17 August 1978)
Edwin J. Silkey, 82, of 113 Grand Ave., Neillsville, passed away at Neillsville
Memorial Hospital, August 17, after a brief illness. He was born, January 20,
1896, in Ashippun, Dodge County, to Frank H. and Susan (Schafer) Silkey. With
his parents, he moved while a young child to the Christie area. He received his
education at the Christie and Mound Schools.
As a young man, Silkey worked on the home farm and later in Dakota and Canada
wheat farms. He married Nellie E. Miljure on August 13, 1923, in Canada, and the
couple returned to Clark County where he started the Christie Garage. His wife
passed away in the summer of 1930 and two years later he began farming. In 1949,
Silkey moved to Neillsville where he worked for Nelson Muffler until retirement
in 1962. He then worked part-time at the B&F Machine Shop and did woodworking in
his home.
Surviving him is one brother, George, Aberdeen, Wa.; and several nieces and
nephews. Preceding him in death besides his wife, are one brother, Alfred and
one sister, Mabel.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, with the Rev. William Noble,
Neillsville United Methodist Church, officiating and burial was made in the
Neillsville City Cemetery, following funeral services at the Georgas-Gesche
Funeral Home.
