King, Eva (19 October 1899 – 7 September 1978)
A native of Iowa who grew up in Minnesota and was a resident of Neillsville for
the past 28 years, Mrs. Eva King, passed away in the Neillsville Memorial Home,
September 7. Mrs. King, who was a resident of the home for the past 18 months
due to failing health, was 78 at the time of her death.
Born in Maurice, Iowa, on October 19, 1899, to Willie and Welthy (Wicks)
Wakefield. She at an early age moved with her parents to Pipestone, Minn., where
she received her early education. She graduated from the Mankato Teachers
College and aught in Pipestone rural schools for a few years.
After her marriage to C. Arthur King on April 11, 1922, in Slaton, Minn., the
couple lived in Sioux City, Iowa and Mankato, Minn., before moving to
Neillsville in 1955.
Survivors include her husband, one daughter, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Roberts,
Neillsville; one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Lillian) Stolte, St. Paul, Minn., and three
grandchildren. Preceding her in death were three brothers and one sister.
Eva was a member of the United Church of Christ, the D.A.R., the Order of the
Eastern Star, The White Shrine and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, September 10, from the
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Clark, pastor of the Neillsville
United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was made in the Fort Snelling
National Cemetery in St. Paul, Minn.
Those attending services included, Mr./Mrs. Everett Ziebell, West Salem;
Mr./Mrs. Herbert Williams, Port Edwards; Mr./Mrs. Elmer Stolte, St. Paul, Minn.;
and Mr./Mrs. Tim Potter, Harland.
