Wagner, Donald (Service Notes- 1978)
Recruits from the Wisconsin Army National Guard met at Camp Williams in Camp
Douglas over the weekend for a basic training orientation, the only
co-educational program of its kind in the state. In that group was Donald Wagner
of Neillsville, who joined thirteen others from across the state.
The orientation is designed to prepare recruits to accept their training both
physically and mentally. The program of instruction includes demonstrations on
military customs and courtesy, correct wearing of the uniform, map reading,
familiarization with the M-16 rifle, introduction to a protective mask,
marching, bedmaking and boot polishing. Most phases of the orientation were
designed for co-educational instruction with only special question and answer
sessions held separately.
This, the fifth co-educational basic training orientation weekend, follows on
highly successful separately conducted male and female orientation sessions.
