Shock, Ellsworth G. (21 April 1909 – 22 September 1978)
A man who was a barber for nearly 50 years, 46 of them in Neillsville, passed
away after a lingering illness, Friday, September 22, in Marshfield’s St.
Joseph’s Hospital. The deceased is Ellsworth G. Shock, 69, of 1210 Lloyd St.
Neillsville.
Shock was born on April 21, 1909, in Stanley to George and Selma (Luskuski)
Shock. After receiving his education in the Stanley area, he began barbering in
the Withee area, staying there for several years. During that time, he married
Frances H. Bergstrom in Owen on April 11, 1927. They moved to Neillsville in
1929 and he was a barber for 46 years until he was forced to retire due to
failing health.
Besides his wife surviving, other living relatives include one son, Ellsworth
Shock, Jr., Grafton; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Joyce) Frei of Whitehall and
Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Brooks of Maurice, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Christian
(Dorothy Sorenson, Merrillan; two brothers, Richard of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; and
Fredrick of Menomonie; fifteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was one sister, Betty.
Funeral services were to be held on Monday, September 25, from the
Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, with the Rev. D.E. Sprague, pastor of
the Neillsville Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial was to be made in
the Nazareth Lutheran Cemetery, Withee (Township of Hixon).
