Frei, George F. (5 February 1896 – 23 February 1978) With Flag

Mr. Frei, 104 Oak. St., Neillsville, was pronounced dead on arrival at Neillsville Memorial Hospital, September 23. He was born February 5, 1896, in New Glarus to Mr. and Mrs. George Frei. After receiving his education in that community, he moved as a young boy to Neillsville with his parents. Prior to entering the service in 1918, he married Angeline Schuld on November 16, 1917, in Neillsville ceremonies. After returning from the military, Frei farmed in the Loyal area until 1935 when he moved to Neillsville where he worked for the Fullerton Lumber Company until retirement in 1961.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Edward and Leo, both of Whitehall; four daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Rose) Noeldner of Loyal, Mrs. George (Lucille) Pagenkopf and Georgiana DeMert, both of Neillsville, and Mary Jane Frei, Eau Claire; one brother, Paul, Klamath Falls, Ore.; 31 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was one brother, Joseph, one sister, Barbara, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for George F. Frei, 82, were to be held on Tuesday, September 26, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with burial in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Joseph Henseler was to officiate. The Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, was in charge of arrangements.
