Hauge, Harry L. (27 August 1897 – 13 October 1978)
Henry L. Hauge, 81, the first man to establish an automobile service station in
Neillsville, passed away Friday, October 13, in the Veterans Hospital, Tomah.
Mr. Hauge was born August 27, 1897, in Neillsville to Alfred “Ole” and Carrie
(Halverson) Hauge. He received his education in the community and operated the
first service station. He was a veteran of Mexican American Wars and World War
I. After his military service, he lived in Portland, Ore., for a few years. On
November 24, 1929, he married Hazel Siverts in Camby, Minn. She passed away on
March 11, 1944. He made his home for many years at a veterans’ hospital in
Downy, Ill. Of late, he had been a resident of the Tomah Veterans’ Hospital.
He is survived by one son, Robert Hauge, Woodstock, N.Y., one brother, Edwin,
Neillsville, and two grandchildren. Preceding him in death besides his wife, was
one sister, Alvina.
Graveside services were held on Monday morning at the Neillsville City Cemetery
with the Rev. Gary Clark, pastor of the Neillsville United Church of Christ,
officiating. Pallbearers for Mr. Hauge were James, Randy and Terry Hauge and
Robert Biechler. The Georgas-Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, was in charge of
arrangements.
