Kessler, Carl (25 April 1897 – 16 October 1978)
Carl Kessler, 81, was pronounced dead on arrival at Neillsville Memorial
Hospital, Monday. Kessler was born on April 25, 1897, in Fort Atkinson, Ia., to
Carl and Agnes (Hanken) Kessler. After receiving his early education in Iowa, he
at fourteen moved with his parents to the Neillsville area where the family
farmed in the Town of Pine Valley.
He worked as a mason in the Neillsville area for a few years prior to his
marriage to Clara Wasserberger on January 18, 1922, in Neillsville ceremonies.
Following the marriage, he worked as a milk hauler for a few years. The couple
then bought a farm in the Town of Pine Valley, operating it the rest of his
life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife as a survivor, others include four sons, Leo, Louis, Kenneth
and Carl Jr., all of Neillsville, three daughters, Mrs. James (Elaine) Haas of
Barron, Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) Schwellenbach and Mrs. Forest (Angeline) Larsen,
both of Neillsville, one sister, Mrs. Henry (Irene) Andraschka, Weyauwega, and
fifteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four
sisters.
