A five room, two story dwelling on the W. H. Szewezyk farm, located 6 ½ miles
northwest of Withee in the Town of Hixon, was destroyed by fire following an
explosion Wednesday afternoon, October 4, 1972.
Mrs. Szewezyk was in the house and detected a gaseous odor. She went to summon
Henry Szewezyk, who was in the field, and when they came within approximately
150 feet of the house, the structure exploded into flames.
The Owen Fire Department fought the blaze and was able to save the other
buildings on the property.
