Clark County Press (Award - 1978)

Two in a Row is Track Record for The Press in U.S. Contest

In San Diego, California, this week, newspaper publishers gathered for the annual meeting of the National Newspaper Association and the presentation of national awards for outstanding writing, photography and newspaper graphics.

Included in the list of winners was The Clark County Press, earning its second national award for excellence in the past two years.

The Press received a fourth place (honorable mention) award in the feature category. There were over 4,000 entries in the contest.

Selected as a feature article on John Pritchard, a Neillsville area artist. The story written by Gary Slaats, editor and co-publisher, had also won a second place in the Wisconsin Newspaper Association’s annual contest recently.

Presentation of awards was to be completed this Friday in San Diego. Slaats, who was unable to attend the convention, learned that John Kenny, publisher of newspapers in Tomah and president of the Wisconsin Newspaper Association, would accept the plaque on behalf of The Press.

The Clark County Press has taken numerous state and national awards in its history, including a first-place award for editorials by past publisher Robert Harvey and other honors for photography, columns, editorial page make-up, in-depth reporting, features and advertising design.
