Ward, Fern C. (7 April 1911 – 21 October 1978)
Fern C. Ward, 67, Black River Falls, died October 21 at the Pine View Nursing
Home there. She was born in Red Wing, Minn., on April 7, 1911, to Roy “Royal”
and Fern (Nichol) Eddy. She was raised by her grandparents in Monroe County and
attended the Big Creek School near Sparta. She was employed in Kalamazoo, Mich.,
for 16 years and then moved to Black River Falls where she was employed in
restaurant work. She later worked in Beloit and South Beloit.
She married Wesley Bodett and he died shortly after their marriage. On August
26, 1952, she married William Ward in Iowa. He was a career military man and
they resided at various U.S. Army posts, including Ft. Leonard Wood and Ft. Dix.
Following his retirement in 1965, they moved to Black River Falls, and he died
in 1969.
Survivors include five half-brothers, Edgar and Kenneth Eddy of Neillsville, Roy
of Merrillan, Gerald of Black River Falls and Jack of Beloit: two half-sisters,
Mrs. Sylvia McMahan, Black River Falls, and Mrs. Evelyn Heuer, Cataract. She was
preceded in death by two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Services were held Tuesday, October 24, at the Charles Buswell Funeral Home in
Black River Falls with the Rev. Gordon Johnson officiating. Burial was in
Riverside Cemetery at Black River Falls.
