Salzwedel, Bertha (? - 1978)
The twelfth traffic fatality for Clark County this year and number 883 for
Wisconsin occurred last
Friday evening on county X between Withee and Thorp.
Dying 90 minutes after admission to Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley was
Bertha Salzwedel, 76, of Blair. According to Clark County Coroner Robert
Lulloff, her death was due to massive chest injuries and a possible concussion.
The deceased was traveling in an early 1970 model sedan driven by her husband,
William Salzwedel, 88. The auto was traveling west on County X, approached the
Sterling Curve, failed to come to a stop and ended up in a clump of trees across
the intersection.
Sterling curve is a junction point between old Highway 29 (now County X) and new
Highway 29. There is a stop sign at the junction and it is believed that the
vehicle did not halt before plunging into the trees. Time of the accident was
placed at 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Salzwedel is a patient at Victory Hospital, having received head and
possible internal injuries.
