Petersen, Norman Erik (14 August 1930 – 15 August 2021)
Norman Erik Petersen died peacefully one day following his 91st birthday, on
August 15, 2021, under the care of the Colonial Nursing Home in Colby, and
Heartland Hospice.
Norman was born Aug 14, 1930, in the township of Fremont, in Clark County, to
Carl and Esther (Horn) Petersen. He completed eighth grade at the Veefkind
School and graduated from high school in Loyal.
Norman took over operation of the family farm in 1952 upon his father’s death.
The Horn/Petersen Family farm was located on Veefkind Road where his grandfather
had purchased the land in 1901. In his retirement, he worked and played golf at
the Marshfield Golf Course. He was a basketball player in high school and in his
adulthood loved the game of golf.
Norman was a friend to everyone he met. While traveling out to North Dakota to
visit family, he stopped and talked with farmers from all over the Midwest to
hear of their experiences and share some of his own. He enjoyed traveling when
he could through the country roads of Clark County or throughout the upper
Midwest.
In 2016, Norman moved into an apartment in Marshfield, later he moved to Aster
Assisted Living of Marshfield, then to the Colonial Nursing Home in Colby, and
was under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Norman is survived by his Niece, Jacqueline Giles, and Great-Niece, Kate Lynn
Giles, both of Eau Claire; Nephew, Jeffrey Giles (Jennae Giles) of Ashland;
Great-Nephew, Jonathan Giles (Sarah Tucker) of Duluth, MN; and Great-Nephew,
Jason Giles of Ashland, and special friends, the Paul Chupp family.
Norman was preceded in death by his Parents, Carl and Esther Petersen; Brother,
Donald H. Petersen; Sister, Margaret M. (Petersen) Giles; and Brother-in-Law,
Paul R. Giles.
The family wishes to thank all those who were friends along the way to Norman
and those that cared for him. A private graveside service is being planned for a
later date.
