Joan Morgan, a high school senior from Thorp, has been honored as a district
winner in the 16th annual scholarship competition sponsored by Thorp Finance
Corporation.
A student at Thorp High School, she is the daughter of Mrs. Jeanette Morgan, 316
Main Street.
Announcement of the honor was made by Harvey V. Mason, ITT Thorp Corporation
president.
District winners from throughout the state were recognized for development of
500 word essays covering one of two topics of nation and world significance,
Mason said.
Topics for the scholarship competition were “What is the Most Important Issue
Facing the United States Today” and “My Role in the Ecology Movement.”
In qualifying as a district winner the students will each receive a $25 Savings
Bond and become eligible to win one of two $1000 scholarships. State winners can
apply their scholarship to any accredited four year American college or
University.
