Joseph Pabich, 66, passed away suddenly Tuesday evening at his home. Joe was the former proprietor of Pabich’s Food Mart.

Funeral services are set for Saturday, April 14 at St. Hedwig’s. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13.

Pabich, Joseph (16 Oct 1906 – 10 Apr 1973)

Joseph Pabich, 66, died of a coronary arrest at his home April 10, 1973. Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church April 14, 1973 at 10:30 a.m., with Reverend John Puerner officiating. Interment was made in the St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery.

Joseph was born October 16, 1906 at Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Pabich was 16 years old when he, his sisters and parents left Chicago to settle on a farm in Thorp. On September 1, 1930 he was married to Josephine Papierniak at Thorp.

After being employed at the Blue Moon Cheese Factory and John Papierniak’s General Store for several years, Mr. Pabich went into partnership with Frank Papierniak in 1940 to start “ and F General Store.” In 1955, Mr. Pabich became the sole proprietor of the business, and changed the name to Pabich’s Food Mart, until his retirement in 1967; at that time, his son, James, took over the business.

Mr. Pabich was an active participant in the Thorp community. During his over 50 years in Thorp, he was a member of the St. Hedwig’s Church Choir, the Thorp Male Chorus, and the Thorp Businessmen’s Association.

Pallbearers were: Walter Marek, John Marek, Leon Marek, Andrew Dobrzynski, Paul Cukla and Louis Papierniak.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine; three sons, Richard Pabich of Chicago, Henry Pabich of Stanley, James Pabich of Thorp; two daughters, Mary Ellen Schwank of Brazil, South America, Barbara Ann Bodner of Syracuse, New York; eleven grandchildren; four sisters, Sophie Marek, Frances Marek and Evelyn Kobylinski, all of Thorp, and Monica Marek of Chicago.
