Prusa, Irene (2 July 1918 - 26 April 1979)
Mrs. Edward (Irene) Prusa, 90, of Hatfield, died Thursday, April 26, in Black
River Memorial Hospital, Black River Falls. She was born July 2, 1918, in Strum
to Curnell and Julia (Moen) Christianson. She moved with her parents to
Merrillan and graduated from high school there in 1936. After completing beauty
school, she worked as a beautician at Button Beauty Salon in Black River Falls.
On June 14, 1941, she and Edward Prusa were married in Merrillan and in 1945,
they took over operation of The Inwood, a store, Supper Club and Ballroom
complex in Hatfield. In 1954, Mrs. Prusa opened the Town and Country Tog and
Beauty Shop in Black River Falls, which she operated for many years until forced
to retire because of ill health. She was matron at the jail while her husband
served as Jackson County Sheriff.
She was a member of the Merrillan United Methodist Church, Miles-Hagen American
legion Post 200 Auxiliary of Black River Falls, and the Hatfield Sportsman’s
Club.
Survivors include her husband, her mother of Black River Falls, two sisters,
Mrs. Doris Wilkins of Black River Falls and Mrs. Warren (Virginia) Herried of
Whitehall. Her father, a sister and brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Merrillan United Methodist
Church, with the Rev. Calvin Carey officiating. Burial was made in the Hatfield
Cemetery. The Charles Buswell Funeral Home at Black River Falls was in charge of
arrangements.
