Each year since 1965, the Thorp High School faculty has selected a student to
represent Thorp in applying for a Wisconsin State Telephone Foundation
scholarship.
The Foundation was established by the Wisconsin State Telephone Association,
which represents 130 telephone utilities serving the state of Wisconsin.
Wayne Belanger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elon Belanger of Thorp, has been selected to
represent Thorp in applying for a Foundation $1000 scholarship.
Wayne is interested in photography and electronics.
Wayne has also been active in track and student council, and has worked part
time at the Ace Hardware and at the Thorp Post Office.
Wayne will receive a check for $25.00 from the Thorp Telephone Company, a
contributor to the Foundation, for being selected to represent Thorp High
School.
Former Foundation scholarship winners from Thorp are John R. Boardman, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Boardman, now in his four year of medicine at Madison, and
Vickie McCue Brunner, daughter of Mrs. Evonne Truse, who has completed two years
at Eau Claire and is married.
