Frederick (17 Aug 1927 - 28 May 2019)
Edwin Frederick Christen, 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the
Grandview Care Center in Blair, WI. He was born August 17, 1927 to Arthur and
Emma (Moser) Christen in Humbird, Jackson County, Wisconsin.
Edwin grew up in the Township of Garden Valley and graduated from Alma Center High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Virginia Zimmerman in 1950, and they were later divorced. In 1986 he was united in marriage to Ruth Hoagenson. In 1946 Edwin worked for the Sevetlic Ford Motor Company in Neillsville, WI. In 1950 he started with the Upton & Sons Produce Company in Black River Falls where he worked as a mechanic and over the road semi driver for about 10 years. He then went to work for Black River Falls Municipal Utilities as an electric lineman until 1989 when he retired.
Edwin loved to travel, especially when he went “coffee tripping” with his buddies. He enjoyed gardening and meticulously worked on his strawberry patch every year. After his retirement, Edwin continued to drive truck as well as some repair and remodeling on his home. He also spent time working on old cars and trucks.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Ruth; granddaughter, Rebecca (Scott) DeGroot of Brooklyn Center, MN; great grandsons, Ethan and Jeremy and son-in-law, Daniel Schroeder of Warrens, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Gene and Scott, daughter Ann Schroeder; and stepson, Brian Atkinson.
Services will be held
on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 115 N
5th Street, Black River Falls with Pastor Eric Bakken officiating. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to service at the service at the church. Burial will
follow in the Riverside Cemetery.
