The J & L Root Beer Stand in Thorp was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.
It was estimated by Mr. Campbell, new owner of the stand this year that the fire
probably started in wiring in the upper portion of the building about 5:30 a.m.,
in that a clock had stopped at 6:00 a.m. A passerby had called the fire
department about 6:30 a.m.
Although in outside appearance the building doesn’t seem damaged extensively,
the inside is completely gutted by the fire.
When questioned by the Thorp Courier editor as to what will happen to the
business and building now, Mr. Campbell said, “It all depends on the adjustor.”
