At the annual meeting of the Wisconsin State Telephone Association held at the
Abbey Resort in Fontana, Wisconsin May 23, 1973, Joseph Keating, President of
the Thorp Telephone Company in Thorp, was elected vice-president of the of their
board of directors for the 1973-74 term. Keating purchased the Thorp Telephone
Company in 1946 when the Company served 420 phones on 12-party rural lines.
The Company will be serving over 2100 phones this summer with all one-party
service. Keating is completing his 3 year term on the Association Board of
Directors. He is also currently serving as President of the Independent
Telephone Pioneers of Wisconsin, and has served as President of the Wisconsin
Locally Owned Group of telephone companies.
He stated that as vice-president, he will work towards furthering the objectives
of the association, including continually improving telephone communication
services and building a better understanding of the industry among the public.
