Barr, Elmer R. Sr. (? – 8 August 1979)
Elmer R. Barr, Sr., a former resident of the area, passed away August 8 in
Brighton, Colorado, following a lingering illness.
Barr was remembered in Neillsville by those with whom he served in the local
unit of the Wisconsin National Guard around 1940.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Moen, one son, Elmer Barr, Jr., a
daughter, Mrs. Marlene Stratford, and four grandchildren. All are residents of
Colorado.

Barr, Elmer Roy, Sr. (2 November 1907 – 8 August 1979)
Funeral services were held Monday Morning, August 13, at Fort Logan National
Cemetery, Fort Logan, Colorado, for Elmer Roy Barr, Sr., 72 of Brighton,
Colorado. Mr. Barr, who died at his home on August 8, was a resident of the
Neillsville area in the 1930’s and 1940’s.
Barr was born on November 2, 1907. On Chicago to Frank E. and Anna (Plamann)
Barr. After receiving his education in that city, he married Ruth Moen on May 9,
1928, in Chicago ceremonies. The couple resided there for a couple of years. In
the 1930’s, Barr and his family moved to Neillsville and lived there until he
was activated with the National Guard in 1940, prior to World War II. He served
in the U.S. Army for 22 years, retiring in 1962 at Fort Bragg, N.C. He lived in
Fayetteville, N.C., until 1975, when the Barrs moved to Colorado. He was a
member of the American Legion Post in Brighton.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, E.R. “Skip” Barr of Fort Lupton;
one daughter, Mrs. M.R. (Jerrie) Stratford of Brighton; and four grandchildren
With the Schmanski (Vetter) Funeral Home of Fort Lupton, Colorado, in charge of
arrangements, Barr was given full military rites by the Fort Carson Honor Guard.
