The members of the United Methodist Church, Thorp, surprised Mrs. Chester
Johnson on her 80th birthday, August 12, 1973, with a dinner and party in the
church dining room after the morning service. A prayer, written by Lucretia Paff,
was read by Reverend Fuller before the dinner, and after dinner Mr. C. Guell
related some of the events in Minnie’s life, and on behalf of the congregation
thanked her for the many services in the church. Mrs. Johnson was presented with
a wall plaque – a mounted cross, and large bouquet of red roses in a crystal
vase. Another bouquet of red roses was from a nephew, Laurence Lindquist, of
Tacoma. Besides the members and other friends from Thorp, the following were
present: Mr. and Mrs. Durward Lindquist, Lorraine Lindquist, Menasha, Mrs. Ruth
Schoen, Green Bay, Mr. and Mrs. K.E. Lindquist and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. H.
Hallanger, Thorp and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Phillips, Black River Falls. Reverend
Cecil Ward from England, a former pastor visiting here, was also present.
