Schwarze, Maria M. “Mary” (7 October 1878 – 10 October 1979)
Mrs. August (Mary) Schwarze, 101, a lifelong resident if Greenwood, died
Wednesday, October 10, in the Neillsville Memorial Hospital, where she was
admitted one day earlier.
Mrs. Schwarze, the former Mary Vollrath, was born to Phillip and Louise Vollrath
in the Town of Warner on October 7, 1878. She received her education in the
Decker School. She was married to August Herman Schwarze on April 19, 1907. They
farmed in the Town of Warner until 1946, when they moved to Greenwood. He died
September 11, 1959. She had resided since in Greenwood, with her son, Alvin. She
was a member and first organist for the Westside Church, which is now Immanuel
United Church of Christ.
Besides her son, surviving her is a brother, Henry Vollrath, Greenwood. Two
brothers and a sister are deceased.
The funeral services were held Saturday, October 13, from the Immanuel United
Church of Christ. The Rev. Alwyn York officiated. Burial was in the Westside
Cemetery. The congregation sang two hymns, with Mrs. Alvin Alberts as organist.
Pallbearers were John Seibold, Theodore Abel, Clarence Liebzeit, Phillip
Vollrath, Albert Wehrman and Harvey Goeke. The Rinka Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
