Lockman, Elle M. (27 February 1894 – 26 November 1979)
Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon, November 29, at 1:30 p.m.
from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville for Ella M. Lockman, 85. Mrs.
Lockman passed away Monday afternoon, November 26 in the Neillsville Memorial
Home where she had been a resident since 1972.
She was born on February 27, 1894, in Cook County, Illinois, to Frank and Marie
(Casper) Baumel. After receiving her education in that area, she moved with her
parents to the Columbia area in 1912. On November 11, 1914, she married Ward N.
Lockman in Neillsville ceremonies and the couple farmed in the Town of Hewett
until he died in 1972.
Surviving her are three sons, Ward of Longview, Wash., and Loren and Glenn, both
of Eugene, Ore.; one sister Mrs. Marie Gehrt, Neillsville; ten grandchildren,
and thirteen great-grandchildren. Preceded in death besides her husband, was one
son, Harold, one grandson, and three brothers.
Rev. William Noble of the Neillsville United Methodist Church officiated and Mae
Peters, offered the musical selections “Beautiful Isle” and “The Old Rugged
Cross” accompanied by Vanita Volkert. The pallbearers were Leslie Cook, George
Mashin, Wilson Bohnhoff, Clifford Winter, William Sollberger and Jerry Cernik.
Burial was made in the Columbia Cemetery.
Attending the services from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gehrt, Wis.
Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Gehrt, Loyal; Mr. and Mr. Loren Lockman and Glenn
Lockman, all of Eugene, Ore.; and Mr. and Mr. Ward Lockman, Longview, Wash.
