Tibbett, Jean Marie (Engagement - 1979)

The engagement of Jean Marie Tibbett to James Smagacz was announced recently by the bride-to-be’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tibbett, 830 East Second St., Neillsville. The groom-to-be’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. James Gall, Rt. 2, Neillsville. Jean and Jim are graduates of Neillsville High School and both are now attending District I Technical Institute, Eau Claire. An October 4 wedding is planned.

Tibbett, Jean Marie (4 October 1980)

St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville was the afternoon, Oct. 4, site for the sharing of nuptial vows for Jean Marie Tibbett and James Smagacz. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated. Parents of the couple are Richard and Joanne Tibbett, Neillsville, and James and Maryanne Gall, Neillsville and the late Stanley and Lorraine Smagacz, Wisconsin Rapids. The father of the bride presented her to the altar.

Serving as maid of honor was Lolly Backaus, a friend of the bride. She was joined by Marge Zschernitz, a sister of the bride; Pattie Schraufnagel, a friend; and Linda Tibbett, the bride’s sister. All are from Neillsville.

Bestman was James Spiegel. He was joined by Brad Meier, Howie Marg and Robin Harder. All men are friends of the groom from Neillsville. Ushering were John Tibbett, a brother of the bride from Memphis, Tennessee, and Scott Gall, a brother of the groom from Neillsville.

Serving as ringbearer was Brian Telega, a cousin of the groom, from West Allis, and Mellissa Zschernitz, a niece of the bride from Neillsville, was flower girl.

Offering special music, “The Rose,” “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “If,” were Bill and Debbie Elmhorst, accompanied by Lee Kuechenmeister.

The bride wore a nylon organza and Chantilly lace gown with a high cameo neckline, laced bishop sleeves, empire-waist and long A-line skirt styled with Chantilly lace inverted ruffled hem, which swept into a triple-ruffled cathedra train. Her veil was waltz-length and was Chantilly lace trimmed. She wore a modified Camelot cap, trimmed with seed pearls and carried a bouquet of gardenias, orange blossoms and baby’s breath.

The groom chose an all-white tuxedo while his attendants chose black and white tuxedos.

Following the wedding, a reception dinner was held at the loyal American Legion Hall and Dancing followed that evening.

The couple announced a wedding trip to central Minnesota. Prenuptial events included a shower hosted by Nancy and Lolly Backaus.

The couple will make their home on Rt. 1 Neillsville. The bride is a 1980 graduate of District I Technical Institute in Eau Claire in clerk-typing. The groom graduating in 1979 from the same school in wood techniques and is now employed by the Neillsville Forestry and Parks Department.
