Silhanek, Anton J. (16 April 1903 – 21 December 1979)
Funeral services were held Monday morning, December 24, for Anton J. Silhanek,
76, of rural Neillsville. He passed away on Friday, December 21, in Neillsville
Memorial Hospital after a bout with cancer. The services, which was held at the
Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, was conducted by the Rev. Gary Clark of the
United Church of Christ. Burial was to be made in the Bohemian National Cemetery
in Chicago, Ill.
Silhanek was born on April 16, 1903, in Chicago to John F. and Marie (Pracna)
Silhanek. After his education, he married Mary Herout in November 3, 1928,
Cicero, Illinois, ceremonies. He worked as a technical engineer and was one of
the founders of Abart Gear and Machine Company of Chicago. He later served many
years as president of the company, retiring fourteen years ago and moving to a
Town of Grant farm. He was well-known in the Neillsville community as co-owner
of Al-A-Mae Ranch and was often seen eating a western-style hat as he completed
errands with his wife and pet dog.
Surviving him, besides his wife, is one son, Allen J., Gilroy, Calif.; one
daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Audrey) Zarn, Westmont, Ill.; and two grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by one brother, James, and two sisters, Bessie and Ann.
