Flick, Judith Kay (14 November 1939 – 17 October 2021)
Judith Kay Flick, 81, of Black River Falls, passed away peacefully at her home
on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Judith (Judy) succumbed to her five-year battle
with CLL Leukemia. Judy has always been a strong woman of faith and knew that
she was ready to go to her heavenly home. She chose to discontinue her treatment
for her disease on October 8th and handled her brief battle with her children
supporting her care at home.
Judy was born at the Black River Hospital on November 14, 1939, to Grace (Flood)
Giloy and William Duchow of Humbird. She attended elementary school in Humbird
while her high school years were in Neillsville. Judy did not complete high
school but completed her GED later in 1988. She married the love of her life,
Harold Arnold Flick at the tender age of 16 on March 31st, 1955. They had the
good fortune of having Judy’s mother Grace join them on their honeymoon as Judy
was too young to be on her own. Judy and Harold settled in Union Grove, where
Harold was a mechanic and Judy worked for Rainfair in Racine, making men’s
topcoats. She even made topcoats for the cadets at West Point. Judy also sold
Rubbermaid upon having children and was a stay-at-home mom for 11 years prior to
their relocation to Black River Falls to raise their family. Judy was also
employed at KFC when it opened for three years. She then worked for Falls
Florist for six years prior to becoming a cook for the Food Service Department
with Black River School District. She was employed there approximately 20 years
upon retirement.
Judy and Harold were happily married for forty years. In November of 1994,
Harold lost his life in a tragic semi accident which was a great loss to Judy.
Judy was widowed for 12 years prior to finding love again. In 2005 she married
Larry M. Wehrmann of Macomb, Illinois. Judy’s family expanded with 4 additional
stepchildren. Judy and Larry wintered in Casa Grande, AZ in their park model
home for three of their six years of marriage. Judy again was widowed upon
Larry’s passing of colon cancer in 2011. Judy spent her remaining years in her
Black River Falls home.
Judy was always an active community member. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and
canning, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family, especially her
grandkids. The grandkids were always up for challenging her and Grandpa Larry to
a game of cards or putting a puzzle together. Judy exemplified a life committed
to Christ and ensuring her family knew that she loved them. She was always
willing support to her lady friends and others as a volunteer for Black River
Interfaith Caregivers and Black River Memorial Hospital. Judy was very active in
her church, Family Worship Assembly previously known as the Assembly of God, on
Alder Street. She acted as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years,
volunteered at the District Spencer Lake Youth Camp in Waupaca, and organized
the Senior Camp attendees. Judy had a strong desire to see that people knew the
Lord and had an opportunity to attend the many church events and activities both
local and district.
Judy is survived and greatly missed by her two sons, Brian A. (Cheryl) Flick of
Black River Falls, Brett A. (Tina) Flick of Holmen, four grandchildren: Alyssa
L. Flick and Nick, Devin H. Flick and Hannah, Sierra T. Reddeman (Joshua), and
Jenna M. Flick and Davis; and two great-grandsons, Kendrick Carter Slegel and
Dekker Brett Helgerson.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Grace Giloy and William Duchow; her
husband Harold Arnold Flick, Jr.; her sister, Gail Bryan; her 2nd husband, Larry
Wehrmann; and numerous other relatives.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Family
Worship Assembly in Black River Falls. Pastor John Cowles will officiate. A
luncheon will follow at the church for further fellowship. Friends and family
are invited for visitation at the church on Friday, October 22, 2021, from 4:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
The Torgerson Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with
arrangements.
