Haines, Ivo L. (26 March 1917 – 7 January 1980) With Flag

Funeral services were to be held today, Thursday, January 10, for Ivo L. Haines, 62, of Rt. 2 Neillsville, who passed away on January 7, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital, after a long bout with cancer. The Rev. Gary Clark was to officiate at the Neillsville United Church of Christ service with burial being made in the Dells’ Dam Cemetery, rural Neillsville.

Haines was born on March 26, 1917, in Arcadia to George and Florence (Myer) Haines. After receiving his education, he worked in Arcadia and La Crosse areas until entering military service in 1942, serving with the U.S. Navy in the south Pacific. After his discharge in 1945, he lived and worked in Racine for several years, later moving to DeKalb, Ill., where he was employed by the General Electric Corporation for thirteen years.

It was during his Illinois sojourn that he married Eleanore Kimpel, August 23, 1953. The couple moved to Neillsville, and he then worked for Sunburst Youth Homes for eight years, retiring in 1978.

(The Press carried a feature story on Hines several years go relating his use and belief in Laetrile, a controversial ante-cancer medication.)

Surviving him, besides his wife, is one son, Michael Snustead of Germantown, and one brother, George, Racine. Preceding him in death was a daughter, Mary Ellen.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Masonic Temple, of which special services were held Wednesday evening.
