The Board of Regents of the Universities of Wisconsin has voted by resolution
that Robert E. Elkins, Editor of the Thorp Courier, be elevated to “Regent
Emeritus” of the state universities “in appreciation for his devoted service to
the state and its universities, on behalf of the board, faculties, staff,
students and alumni of the University of Wisconsin System.”
From the Office of Universities President, John C. Weaver, the letter also
notified Elkins that “in recognition of the newly designated title, Regent
Emeritus, which you now hold, a certificate has been designed for presentation
at the next Regents Dinner. President Weaver and I very much hope that you will
be able to join us for this occasion and that you will find pleasant the
opportunities to renew acquaintance with you former colleagues. We will meet at
Maple Bluffs Country Club, 500 Kensington Drive, Madison, on Thursday, November
8 at 6:30 p.m.”
The editor served as a member of the Board of Regents under Governor Gaylord
Nelson.
