Ender, Anna (? - 12 January 1980)
The wife of a former publisher of a Neillsville newspaper passed away, January
12, in her Durand home at the age of 87. Funeral services for Anna Ender were
held Thursday, January 17, from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. The Rhiel
Funeral Home in Durand was in charge of arrangements.
Anna, along with her husband, August, published The Neillsville Press, located
on the north edge of the downtown area, for a period in the late 1930’s. The
couple moved to Durand where they began publishing the Durand Courier-Wedge.
Which is now operated by a son, William. (The Neillsville Press was a direct
forerunner of The Clark County Press. The Enders sols the publication to Wells
F. Harvey in 1938 and since that time, the Neillsville newspaper has changed
ownership two more times although connected to the Harvey family.)
Anna Brunner was born in Durand and married August Ender there. Besides
operating a newspaper in Neillsville, they were also connected with publishing
in Chippewa Falls, Rice Lake and Durand.
Survivors include three sons, Carl and William, both of Durand, and Donald of
Madison, a sister, Rose Bardill, La Crosse, and a grandson. Her husband passed
away in 1959.
