Jenness, Arlin Elwood (10 January 1947- 2021) With Flag

Arlin Elwood Jenness, 74, of Thorp, was found tucked in bed on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, and had passed away peacefully in his sleep.

He was born in Ladysmith, on January 10, 1947, to the late Elwood and Elinor Jenness, being the only son of four children. Arlin’s class was the first class to graduate from Thorp High School where he earned his high school diploma. Arlin served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1972. He married the love of his life, Viola Carpenter on December 20, 1969, and recently celebrated their 50-year anniversary. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College where he earned his Law Enforcement Certificate. Arlin was then employed with the Clark County Sheriff’s office in 1980. He started in dispatch and retired as a sergeant in 1991.

If Arlin wasn’t golfing or fishing, you would most likely find him working on his model airplanes or flying them at South Fork Flyers, which he was a member of. He was also a part of a bowling league, which he dedicated many years of his life to. He was an avid hunter since childhood and loved being outside in the fresh air. One would often find him strolling around town with his beloved dogs, Draco, and most recently Maggie.

Arlin is preceded in death by his parents, Elinor and Elwood, and his beloved wife Viola Jenness.
He is survived by his three sisters: Sharon Orheim, Nancy Hmielak and Pam Larson; by his two daughters: Micki (Dale) Moon and Dawnice (Paul) Hester; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arlin’s celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Thorp Funeral Home, with military rites conducted by the Thorp VFW Post #9057. A lunch will be served at the Thorp American Legion immediately following.
